Halton Classic Ski Levels 2009 - 2010

The club offers the following classic ski lessons at the beginning of the season to help members improve their skills and enjoyment of the sport. These three levels cover both the flats and hills:

Level 1 is for beginners in the sport or those who may have done a little skiing several years ago. This course will teach the fundamentals of skiing and give you the skills to enjoy yourself on the easier trails of the resort. There will be a follow up to this session on Sunday January 10 at Horseshoe, when the instructors have volunteered to take students out on the trail for half a day to practice the skills learned in the lessons.

Level 2 is for those who wish to refresh their skills in order to ski more efficiently and confidently uphill, downhill and on the level. Double poling and hill management will be covered. This level is for people who have skied before and have reasonable confidence on skis. The first part of the day will be on the training grids and the second part on the trails.

Level 3 is for those who want to refine their skills. This course will be based on an assessment of student needs. It will start with a short review on the training grids and then on the trails. The focus will be diagnosis of problems and technique improvement. Effective weight transfer, fluid diagonal striding, step turns and adapting ski technique to different types of terrain will be among the topics covered. Levels 2 and 3 will be taught as one group.

The cost of the lessons is $65, which includes the bus fare, trail fee and instruction. The registration form is in the November newsletter. It should be sent to the club address, with your cheque, by Nov 30. If any applications are accepted after this date the fee will be $75.
